An honest to goodness quilting bee

The other night I was contacted through our website by a very nice lady, Margaret, about a call for quilts for Japan. Perhaps you saw my link on Facebook earlier today? Well, just in case you missed it, Quilters Newsletter has had a long relationship with Patchwork Tsushin, a leading Japanese quilting magazine and they've offered to collect and ship quilt donations to Japan. <PREVIEWEND>If you have a new quilt that has been languishing in your projects closet and could use a good home, I encourage you to send it off.

Here’s how you can be part of this important worldwide response:

•    Send quilts of any size from baby to adult to:

Dana Jones
Quilters Newsletter
741 Corporate Circle, Suite A
Golden, CO 80401

•    Mark your box: “Quilts for Japan.”
•    Send quilts as soon as possible and no later than April 30, 2011.
•    Enclose your name, address, phone number, and email address with the quilts.

And if you would like to help us create a quilt (or two or three) as the gather here community, please come out next Sunday, April 3rd, at 4 p.m. I figure if we hold this quilting bee for three Sundays we'll have plenty of time to cut, piece, and quilt. I'll be bringing some of my fabric stash from home (it's about time I did something with it) and have a couple ideas for possible quilts we could do. How about a red and white one? It would be a cool way to pay homage to the 651 red and white quilts on exhibit in NYC & the Japanese flag. I welcome your ideas and stash as well! If you don't have quilting experience that's just fine. You can use scissors, right?

What: Quilting Bee for Japan
When: Sunday, April 3rd, 10th and 17th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Gather Here!
Why: Make something for a stranger - it's the least we can do.
