March 2024 We Care Wednesday

When we first opened gather here back in 2011 we were located just two blocks away from On The Rise on Broadway. We've been fortunate to be able to be one of the sponsors of their annual event: Empty Bowls Project over the past few years and to coincide with this annual event we decided to raise funds for their organization this month as well.

On The Rise was founded in 1995 on the idea that dependable relationships catalyze healing and transformation. They commit to relationships with chronically homeless women and transgender/non-binary people that are long-term and relevant to their entire life experience. On The Rise provides innovative and effective services to nearly 450 women and transgender/nonbinary participants annually helping them move from surviving on the street to living and thriving in their own homes.

As always, please consider making an individual donation directly to On The Rise.

Purchase tickets and attend the Empty Bowls Project. You'll get a bowl of delicious soup AND a hand thrown bowl by a local artist.

Volunteer! There are many ways to help On The Rise. From sorting donations to hosting a drive to coordinating a move. We recently gifted 50 of the handcrafted toiletry bags made by community members and filled with brand new toiletries to them this year.

*Since launching the We Care Wednesday initiative in January 2017 we have donated over $85,215 to a variety of nonprofits and mutual aid funds doing essential work in our community as well as other places. From the Mayor's Disaster Fund to BAGLY to Abortion Access Front and Material Aid and Advocacy. We select organizations that we feel represent not only our commitment to a better, more equitable world but also our desire to "do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."
